Diane von Furstenberg is always one of the biggest shows of New York Fashion Week and for good reason: She is known for her hard-edged feminine designs on the runway mixed with bold face names lining the front row. Although I was not so fond of her previous collection, I really like this dramatic Fall 2011 collection. It's entitled American Legend and is inspired by three iconic independant women: Millicent Rogers, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Diana Vreeland. Elements of her American journey and trails were artfully interwoven with von Furstenberg’s signature glamour. The shadows of Vreeland and Rogers in the Southwest hung over the opening with its seventies-flavored culottes and chemise dresses in bold prints and color blocks in black, white, and lipstick red. As always, Furstenberg showcased her signature print work with playful designs found on jumpsuits and wrap dresses. A trio of sequined evening sheaths, in red, black, and ultramarine (the american colors) closed the show as an ultimate tribute. I personally really love the sunglasses and sequin dresses!
