Recently, I have just attended a Psychology lecture at NUS.
It was quite amazing. I vividly remembered a point where Asst. Prof Maria mentioned.
She showed us a video, where there's a man whose left arm is amputated and miraculously, he can actually feel his "phantom" left arm when someone touches his left cheek. Apparently, the nervous system of the left cheek has overlapped over to the nervous system controlling the "left arm".
Amazing isn't it?
Well let me introduce to you something called the reticular activating system (RAS) today.
You are what you think. Its power lies in the fact that the subconscious accepts all you feed it as reality.
It CANNOT distinguish between a real perception and an imaginary one.
So, you should FAKE it till you make it.
If you are demoralised or act depressed on purpose, you will really become depressed because your brain is not able to differentiate between what's real and what's not.
An example would be that when you are studying, you rest your head on your palm. Soon you will feel bored and you will naturally become unproductive.
It sort through the clutter and carefully select and guide you to the reality that is consistent with your thoughts.
Hence, if you are thinking, "I am a successful businessman." Your brain will guide you towards that goal. But you must be consistent in thought. If there is a slight diversion along the way, it will change its course for sure!
It screens out everything that won't interest you and then waking you up to something that will interest you.
That is why you might feel that you are constantly exposed to something, for example, a number, a colour, a statement or even a person. That's mainly because you are constantly thinking about it and thus, you only took noticed of that particular thing. In actual fact, they are appearing on the same frequency as other things. Its just that you are biased towards it.
Pretty amazing right?
So, start thinking positive and have absolute positive statements about yourself because your brain is de facto "stupid", as it cannot tell between what's real and what's fake!
